Eldora pitchers Swofford and Jarnagin lead a 6 to 1 victory over Mt Vernon after a strong Wednesday showing. Swofford pitched six innings, Jarnagin closed with three, as Eldora’s bats exploded in the sixth to eighth frames. Coppice and Green featured for Mt Vernon, while Eldora’s Reems and Colesia contributed solid defense and offense amid a large crowd and a busy schedule ahead against Union and other teams.

Polland starts major Eldora nursery near Belmond land
J S Polland announced the purchase of 34 acres north of Eldora near Keeneman farm at $200 per acre to establish a leading state nursery. He partners with A C Hinman of Belmond, a Chicago University graduate and former Industrial School officer, bringing capital and extensive horticultural experience from Ireland, Belfast, London, and Holland. The project aims to expand trees, shrubs, berries and existing greenhouses, boosting Eldora's reputation in tree culture.

Man Charged With Raising a Check to Two Dollars
Carl VonDrier, about 24, is charged with altering a $1.10 check to $2.10 by adding a 2. The check, issued by W. H. Sheakley to John Frisbie, passed through the west side pantorium and to H. W. Fannon store before presenting at First National bank. Fannon swore out information. Sheriff Walsh tracked VonDrier to Mankato, Minnesota. He was brought back for a preliminary trial before Justice Whited.

Local Supper Raises 11.80 as Hall Attendance Grows
The hall last Thursday drew a good crowd and the supper proceeds totaled 11.80 dollars. Mrs Estella Carpenter of Steamboat Rock visited the home of her parents J S Quiggle and wife for a few days last week. Mrs Belle Swartwood bought Geo Patten's property and Irvin Wilson purchased Mrs Swartwood's property. Unclear when possession will be given due to incomplete wording.
Adjourned City Council approves curb around public square
The council in an adjourned session with Mayor Tyler and eight members passed a resolution of necessity to establish a curb around the public square. The city solicitor was alerted to the Jepsen board of review case. Fines and licenses totaling 131.50 were reported and adopted. The street committee was told to remove hitching posts near the Christian church and the ordinance committee to draft rules for buried gasoline tanks three feet underground and three feet from any building. The next meeting is September 6.
