The Herald advertises a tempting scheme offering a round trip to St Louis and seven days World’s Fair admissions to any Hardin county young lady aged 16 to 40 who secures 60 new subscribers in county and collects 75 for one year. Payment secures tickets, with work to be completed by July 30.
Churches list services for May 1 1904 with details for Presbyterian Baptist Christian and Methodist congregations. Maryville speaker Miss Kate Moss will address Women’s Foreign Missionary Society and a quarterly meeting is set for May 8 1904. Unions by letter or probation offered.
The Eldora Play House presented Macbeth by the John M. Mickey company led by John Griffith. Griffith delivered a masterful performance as Macbeth in a night regarded as the best of the season, with clever acting noted throughout.
For the week ending April 25, 1904, very unseasonably low temperatures and nightly frosts hampered germination and slowed early field work. The last three days were warmer with moisture totals up to 3.35 inches in Des Moines area. Rain was timely in parts but excessive in others. sowing progress for small grain and soil prep for corn improved, with three quarters of the state nearly finished. Plowing and ground preparation for corn advanced, promising a larger corn crop than last year. Germination lagged due to cold, but expected losses from early grain freezing are small. overall conditions better than in late April 1903.
An early morning fire in the Fourth ward disrupted work at Dr. J. B. King’s home where repainting was underway. Firemen responded after the alarm around 7:30 AM as workers struggled to control the blaze and protect gathered supplies and ongoing preparations.
Johanna Dorsey born September 6, 1826 in Wiley ing Virginia died at her home in Vinton Iowa on Saturday April 23 1804 aged 77 years 7 months and 17 days. She married G. W. Campbell January 29 1850 and they moved west to farms in Wisconsin Iowa and Kansas before settling in Vinton with a five year Kansas interlude.
A fire caused by burning off old paint spread through the roof of a house in Eldora, inflicting substantial damage. Two hose streams flooded most rooms, damaging ceilings walls carpets and furniture. Estimated loss likely around 450 dollars, insured for the owner, with thanks extended to firemen and neighbors for aid on the morning of the 27th.
To them were born five sons and four daughters of which three sons and one daughter survive their mother. Surviving children include Owen of Eldora Irvin of this city David of Waterloo and Mrs Chas Adams of Reinbeck along with foster son James Mansur on a farm near Vinton. The deceased was a beloved Christian who endured over forty five years of suffering with fortitude and died of pneumonia after a brief illness. She prayed to die and find relief, and Death Angel found her ready to meet her Savior.
An ad lists brick for sale at The Crescent Lumber Company and promotes One Minute Cough Cure as a remedy for coughs croup and influenza claiming immediate relief without stomach involvement. It notes the product soothes inflamed airways and improves oxygen delivery to blood and tissues and mentions local sellers Smith & Reed and dentist G A Stewart.

Ed Shafer resigns from Radcliffe Mercantile. C Johnson returns from Des Moines business college. band season opens with an outdoor concert.
S Sherman is on the sick list. H Elliott is again quite poorly. W A Wickham and family were in Owasa last Tuesday. Mrs Ed Cross entertained a company of friends Sunday. George Hastings, who has been quite sick, is improving. Rev Murphy preached two very good sermons here Sunday. Mr and Mrs Joe Huse visited at Charley Warns last Friday. W A Wickham lost one of his work horses last week. Quite a number from here went to Iowa Falls last Saturday and came home in the rain. John Warn and wife of Eldora visited the former's sister Mrs McVey at this place Saturday. Mr and Mrs Bunker of New Providence spent Sunday with their daughter Mrs Clifford Madden. The Christian Aid Society will meet with Mrs J S Quiggle, Thursday May 5th. Everybody is invited.

John Leverton transacting legal business at Ackley Monday. Petrie and son Dan of Ackley in the vicinity Monday. Mr and Mrs Kraminga at Ackley Tuesday. Louie Gimner took an overland trip to Hardin City early this week. O Reece and Jess Johns traveled to Wellsburg on business last week.
