Hort iculturalists and nurserymen advocate pruning all trees shrubs and vines in late fall through early spring arguing it benefits growth and beauty. Pol land explains seed anatomy sap flow and root branch development while warning improper winter cuts can harm trees and urging expert handling of young trees.
The next city council meeting Monday evening will present committee reports detailing money received and spent, and the city’s financial standing. Mayor treasurer clerk and department heads will explain expenditures and street work. Eldora is financially prosperous with assets ahead of liabilities and a planned levy reduction in August while preserving safety and upgrades.
In a sudden shower a well dressed woman shelters under a Madison street awning when a middle aged man thanks her for a hat that rekindled his memories of Salt Lake City. He reveals the hat is an exact copy of the Mormon tabernacle and his lifelong yearning to see it again is fulfilled before he dies.
In Eldora Iowa on March 18 1909 the Hardin and Franklin counties boards of supervisors met in joint session to adopt the commissioners report on drainage district benefits. They confirmed assessments against land parcels and townships including Lee Grant and Hardin townships and the railroads St Paul Des Moines Iowa Falls Northern, with a railroad assessment of 97.50. The vote was Yea six to none.
Eldora social scene reports Mrs Parker S Davis hosting about forty younger married ladies in a springtime gathering. Blooming potted plants and pink carnations decorated rooms while a literary contest awarded a Congregational cookbook to Mrs G Paul Kier. April foolish bonbons amused guests. Out of town guests included Mrs George Haynes of Steamboat Rock and Miss Day of Waterloo visiting C E Greef’s home.
Augustus Stowe a longtime resident and deacon of the Baptist church died yesterday at his home after a brief illness from rheumatism of the heart. He was about 84 years old and is survived by his wife and five children. Funeral arrangements have not yet been made.
The I. B. Club hosted a six o clock dinner Wednesday at Mrs. A. W. Crossan's home in honor of Mrs. Fred Wills. Mrs. Wills is set to leave Eldora as Mr. Wills resigns his post and may relocate to Virginia. Members present included Elva Greer Lydia Keeneman Mrs Rob Smith Myrna McLean Gay Smith Bess Near Mrs Wills Harriett Meader Hithel Ward Maude Near and Mrs Crossan.

District Superintendent W. TF Pitner of Marshalltown Rev W E Van Bur en of Eldora J Q Robinson of Ackley and Rev Gallagher of this place the committee appointed to arrange the program for the next quarterly conference of the district were in session at the M E parsonage Tuesday. The meeting will take place the latter part of May or the first of June.
Mayor Grant Tyler is confined to his room with lumbago after running without an overcoat. Auditor Vigars releases Hardin county seventh annual financial report printed under his supervision and praised as a credit to the county.
