The Lafayette County Colored Fair in Higginsville Missouri on August 24 1904 showcased fine weather and large crowds. Premiums were awarded in horse and mule classes bicycle races culinary exhibits and various games with notable winners including John Walker Leslie Miller Geo Seward James Perry and Wm Ray. The following day August 25 1904 the closing events featured a 100 match race Katy Dean vs Star Patchen with Star Patchen winning two heats. May and Duke Allison won the three minute trot. Buddy and Billy Green won the running race. attendance around 600 and overall orderly conduct.

C Milton English, manager and half owner of the Sedalia Weekly Conservator, visited the fair with W Huston handling the other half. The call goes out to boost next year’s fair to be bigger, better attended, with every department filled and progress and intelligence shared with all Central Missouri residents.
