Washington reports predict Joe Cannon will win the speakership with 105 caucus votes pledged from a bloc including Illinois Wisconsin Minnesota Nebraska Michigan Indiana Iowa Kansas Massachusetts New Hampshire Connecticut Tennessee Colorado Dakota Montana Idaho. Dalzell and Babcock are likely to miss key chair and floor leadership roles. The piece notes potential ire in the New York delegation if Payne’s work is not honored.
Mrs Chaffee fell ill in Chicago causing abrogation of a warm welcome for General Chaffee and Acting Governor Luke Wright. The party was moved to a hotel for rest and will tour the city this afternoon. Wright leaves for Memphis tonight to report the Philippine situation to President Roosevelt.

John Butcher admits with James A Robb present that he and Charlie Bradshaw robbed the Lamonte post office and Terry Brothers store on October 1. He claims his brother Dave Bradshaw and Dave Retchoer are innocent and says Charlie Bradshaw is at large after a fight with officers near Windsor Mo. Butcher plans to plead guilty at arraignment.
A Katy freight northbound train derailed near Hintville Kansas at 3 am after a car breakdown, sending seventeen cars off the track. Seven cars carried sheep with many injured and several killed. officials offered few details, and traffic was delayed about fourteen hours with No 2 not arriving until after 3:30.
The Ladies Auxiliary of the Railroad Conductors hosted Mr and Mrs M Ducker on East Seventh Street for their twenty fifth wedding anniversary. Gifts included a silver fruit dish and a silver spoon. Mrs. Will Kroenecke of 210 West Eleventh Street reported a small blaze causing about 100 in damages. The fire started from a dead flue and the family had been using it for nearly a week.

Fall River Mass Nov 17 ten men were buried in the ruins of a collapsing building in Globeville, a suburb, this morning. Four men were removed alive, one being an ice dealer, with other details incomplete.
Reports from Pell City indicate two killed and ten injured in a massive explosion at the Southern railway depot. Fifty cases of dynamite stored there caught fire as citizens fought flames. two freight trains were partly wrecked and a hotel plus ten store were damaged. James Hall and Thomas Whitfield identified among the dead.
Cyrus Newkirk died of heart failure at his Los Angeles home on Sunday morning. Born March 12, 1821 in Brown County Ohio, he played a key role in Sedalia's early growth, guiding the First National Bank and helping organize the Tebo and Neosho railroad. He led the bank until its 1894 failure and later moved to California. He leaves a widow and five surviving children.
In New Orleans on November 17 the Federation of Labor adopted a resolution demanding a complete inquiry into charges by President Shaffer of the Iron and Steel Workers that President Gompers abused his office in the steel strike settlement last year.
The Blue Ribbon Minstrels will travel to Tipton on Tuesday to present a show that evening. The Sedalia Military Band will provide accompaniment for the performance.

The Ladies of St Patrick's Parish host a tea at Mrs Patrick O Connell's home on Thursday evening, inviting parishioners to join in community fellowship and fundraising.
At a Friday meeting in Queen City Grove No. 1 eight applications were read and two new members were admitted joining the lodge. The session focused on initiation progress and membership growth within the organization.
Robert C. Sneed known as Camp Sneed, age 49, died in Pocatello Idaho after moving eight months earlier from Sedalia Missouri where he operated a law office and an abstract business. He was born in Danville Kentucky and settled in Sedalia in 1852 with his father. He married Maggie Montgomery in 1881 and left three children Mary Robert and Katherine. He studied at Westminster College and was admitted to the bar in Sedalia in 1872. He is survived by a wife, three children and several siblings in Missouri Arkansas and Illinois. His remains were to be brought back to Sedalia.
