The Supreme Court this morning overruled a motion for a re hearing in the high profile Oglesby litigation. The decision ends ongoing legal wrangling surrounding the case with no immediate further action expected.
The Missouri Supreme Court overruled Oglesby's motion for rehearing in the case against Missouri Pacific Railway, finalizing a verdict in favor of the railroad. Oglesby, a former brakeman who lost a leg in a train incident near Lee's Summit, had pursued $15,000 after multiple jury awards. The decision closes a decade of litigation and notes prior criticisms of the court and related fines forContempt.
Col Strang convened a second Sedalia meeting in the Ilgenfritz building to push a $25,000 North South road proposition. Kansas City and St Louis reports say the Brotherhood of Railway Expressmen called off the strike at Pacific Express after a 10 percent wage demand. W. C. Fleming stated deserters weakened the action, and workers were told to reapply as new hires and resign from the union. The walkout began October 15 and spanned multiple cities.
Gate City Virginia reports a morning clash at Fairview twenty miles south of town during voting. Democratic judges John Asburn and I E Nickels were killed. Republican J H Gateson likely fatally wounded by a neck shot and Republican Alex Rees wounded in the hip.
In New York the betting favored McClellan over Low ten to nine as ballots flowed in under fair weather. State officers and police monitored the process while a potential million dollars was expected to change hands.
