The Manila health commission reports 151,000 cholera cases and 835,000 deaths in the archipelago over the past year. In Manila there were 4,600 cases with 3,400 deaths. Smallpox since January has caused deaths as well.
Kansas City May 27 high railway officials in eight private cars are ready to supervise hiring of new workers if freight handlers strike. They plan to act quickly to prevent disruption as union leaders warned of possible walkouts.
A. W. Machen, recently suspended head of the free delivery division, was arrested at 1 PM on information filed by Postmaster General Payne. The charge alleges Machen profited from a device used in free delivery boxes and from government contracts totaling several thousand dollars. The arrest creates widespread official stir and speculation about further arrests.
A committee meeting led by Ira T. Bronson outlined the Memorial day observance for Saturday May 28 with participation invited from Sedalia officials the Rifles Women's Relief Corps Spanish American soldiers and local citizens. The parade forms 1 30 p m at Fifth and Lamine then proceeds east to Hancock north to Third east to Engineer and to the cemetery for ceremonies. Flower donations are requested and may be sent to 114 East Fifth by 9 a m.
A five story tenement on West 135th Street burned early today. Four people died Julia Wandling 406 Charles Wandling 7 Helen Wandling 4 and George Wandling 7. Victor Johnson 32 Agnes Lynn 7 among the injured. Firemen performed daring rescues as residents fled in night clothes and jumping victims were supported. The blaze started on the ground floor and spread rapidly through the building.
The Sedalia High School class of 1903 held class day exercises in the school auditorium with speeches and music. Patrons and families witnessed graduates receive diplomas as part of the annual commencement program.
A high school auditorium program drew many friends of the class with a strong evening of speeches poems music and a Shakespeare play. The event included James Snow as class president and a cast list featuring Harry Menschke Fred Hughes and others.

Washington reports police action in the Philippines as former Postmaster Milne at Tacolban is jailed for allegedly taking two thousand dollars of government funds and Postmaster Karelson at Calamba is held while investigators probe another two thousand dollars missing between his office and Manila.
The board of managers for the Mis eaust State Fair will meet in regular session to discuss planned events and organizational items for the upcoming fair season.
Marcel Renault died today from a skull fracture suffered in the Paris Madrid automobile race. The fatality marks the tenth death and raises fears for many others injured in the event.
