Spanish and American fleets edge toward a decisive encounter as Admiral Cervera’s squadron reaches Santiago de Cuba. Reports say Sampson’s fleet nears, with coal convoys and orders to push offensives in Cuba and target Canaries. Refugees arrive in New York. U.S. Army contracts widen provisioning.
Advertises cheap coal including Rich Hill Nut Lexington Whipple and other soft coal grades plus Scranton anthracite and seasoned wood. Also sells feed, sewer pipe, vitrified building and fire brick with yard and downtown office locations and phone contact.

The Second Missouri Volunteers under Colonel Caffee reached Camp George Thomas at Chickamauga Park Ga on May 20 in three train sections. Commanders Major Mitchell and Major Williams led the other two sections. Caffee reported no sickness, only mild fever from heat and cramped cars among a few men. The second and third sections trailed the first by 15 minutes to a half hour.

Prof W A Lientz, Democratic probate judge candidate, attended the closing exercises at Professor Bryan's Salem school yesterday. The day featured drills, marches, recitations, and a large basket dinner. An immense crowd enjoyed a happy day.
