Tampa reports the transport Gussie carrying Companies E and G of the First Infantry to Cuba with rifles, ammunition, and hospital supplies. Twenty-two Cubans join the expedition in U.S. army canvas, under Dr. Granrdy.
Dr. S. K. Crawford of Sedalia, senior regimental surgeon of the Missouri National Guards with major rank, retires. His departure leaves Major J. M. Jackson as senior surgeon of the Third regiment, and remaining regimental surgeons are Drs. Wilson, Stern, and Welsh with lieutenant ranks.
A local advertisement promotes cheap coal including Whipple Rich Hill Nut Lexington and other soft coal grades. Also offered are Scranton anthracite seasoned wood in cord and stove lengths, various feeds, sewer pipe, vitrified building and fire bricks. Yard locations and downtown office details are provided with a phone number.
The Seventh Congressional District Democratic convention met in Sedalia to renominate Hon. James Cooney by acclamation. J. O. Winn chaired, with D. E. Kennedy as temporary chair and G. W. Burroughs as temporary secretary. Committees on credentials and organization were appointed, and the session praised Uncle Sam.
The St. Louis Republic reports the Second Regiment faced a high rejection rate during muster at Camp Stephens with 6 to 19 men per company disqualified mainly for foot defects. Only F Company showed strong relief with low disqualification. Recruits await uniforms and arms from Washington as bands serenade the camps after a heavy storm.
George H. Mayer injured in a runaway on April 1 receives a $43 settlement from J. F. Rea acting for the Preferred Accident Insurance Company.

Rev J D Catlin who was called in January to the Central Presbyterian church will be installed this evening by a committee from the Kansas City presbytery. Special music and decoration promise unusual attractiveness. The public is invited. Services begin at 8 p m.
George Jones a Sedalia blacksmith for 20 years lies bedfast at his home at Fourth and Lamine streets since February 28. He has a young daughter and two sons aged 12 and 4, and the family lacks food and suffers destitute circumstances.

Lieut Rufus Longan reported 31 men enlisted for the 11th regiment by noon. Private Molloy said if papers had arrived last week they could have secured 100 men up to date.
The will of the late Peter Kuhn was filed and probated today. Mrs. Kuhn was made executrix. The will of G. T. Roberts of Lamonte was probated. E. K. Cannady was made administrator. Will Munday surrendered to officers after a Saturday night stabbing of Garrison Dawson. Munday claims Dawson accused him over a missing board, charged him as a liar, and rushed him. He says he stabbed Dawson in the breast, arm, lung, and near the heart, then found the board in a rain barrel. He denies being Dawson’s son in law.
