Three hundred workers including carpenters hod carriers and printers walked off in Kansas City on May 1 demanding higher wages. Authorities fear the strike could escalate as labor actions spread.
The street fair committee met at the Elk's club to outline plans and seek council support. E G Cassidy and W H Graffis will visit Main street merchants while Cody Bioch and H V Rice handle Ohio street outreach. Dr E F Yancey and J P Herrington will study Hannibal's successful fair for ideas. The committee will present its plans to the city council this evening.
Grant Harpold’s libel suit against Professor Weltmer ended in a defendant victory in Nevada. J. H. Kelley testified the Weltmer business advertises nationally at four to five thousand dollars monthly, draws fifteen hundred to two thousand visitors monthly, and uses suggestion for distant treatment. Kelley said the institute began in 1897 and is worth about $40,000, with patients met at the depot arrivals.
Coroner investigates the death of Jerome Peck a Civil War veteran and farm laborer near Sedalia Pettis County after his body was found hanging in an abandoned hut. The inquest returns a verdict of death by own action with a heavy wire noose and a fatal neck break. He left Illinois five years ago with his wife and four children and had suffered long illness and mental distress.
Hon. O M Barnett, long seriously ill at Jefferson City, has improved enough to sit up most of the time and receive visitors.
A Joplin dispatch reports the sale of eighty acres of rich zinc land near Aurora to a Boston syndicate for 500000. The Tuttle mine and other Zinc properties are included. Other Sedalian investors hold forty acres nearby with royalties already at 250 a week, and more deals with eastern syndicates are possible totaling about 3000000.
Warrensburg Missouri May 1 Robert Zimmerman a farmer five miles north of town was accidentally shot Saturday by his wife during a squirrel hunt. She fired as she reloaded when the shell stuck in the breech and discharged striking him.
The Pettis county bar raised Old Glory at the courthouse in a patriotic Dewey Day ceremony led by Judge Lon gan. Cannons and fire crackers roared as Lamm and Steele organized the crowd amid flags along Lamine street near the SeEmI NEL office.
The May term of the circuit court convened with a full bar but only dismissed several suits. Actions dismissed include John G. Rissler vs P G Walker et al on note and venue change from Jackson county and Joseph D. Wicker vs Missouri Pacific railway for damages among others. Related cases involve damages, accounts, attachments, and divorce matters such as Oma Williams vs Oscar Williams and Anna B. Vanatta vs George B Vanatta.
Ross Myers minor son of Jonathan Myers sues Electric Railway company for 35000 claiming injuries from colliding with a lowered arc light being repaired while he rode a bicycle. Montgomery & Montgomery represent the plaintiff.
N F Ebersole appointed curator of the minor heirs of Charles Saunders. H T Guild appeals in the case against John Mercurio. America Pfeiffer appeals by defense in the Elizabeth Smith estate case. W C Goodrich appeals in labor account against 8 K Crawford. Johanna Roberts seeks alimony from Tillman L Roberts amid divorce suit. Lena G Bouldin seeks alimony and child custody amid Mentor T Bouldin’s divorce case. New trial motion in Geo F Ballingal et al v Mack S Donnell overruled. defendant excepted.
Russell camp 2065 of the Modern Woodmen will hold a large meeting to arrange attendance at the head camp in Kansas City on June 6. A committee will hire a band and arrange for a special train. Sedalia Woodmen plan to go en masse. Jas Montgomery traveled to Moberly today.
Mrs Elizabeth Moore aged 73 died at 4 20 this morning at her home 109 East Boonville street blood poisoning from a small sore of unknown origin on the great toe causes the death She was born in Kentucky and lived here over 25 years Surviving stepchildren include John W Moore and Mrs Rosa Turner The funeral is set for 9 30 Tuesday at St Vincent's church with Rev Father Healey officiating pallbearers listed and the Keck & Ramsey firm handling the services

The Servant Harker pharmacy ran a half page ad in the Daily Sentinel on Saturday urging customers to call for Wheelon, the best light drink. The store expected enough to cover Sunday, but the ad drew so many calls that customers were refused before 11 p.m. Saturday.
