Mrs Frank Duffner fired a shotgun to deter midnight trespassers near Rosendale last night. Police were called but no injuries were reported as the incident ended without further trouble.
Special to the Sentinel reports Mrs. Frank Duffner in Johnson county shoots at thieves in a night road incident after a wagon theft. Separately a prominent local man plans a sensational divorce filing alleging alleged wrongs by his wife based on a letter to a well known local man.
A Gorin Missouri woman Miss Eila Ewing now 25 is 8 feet 3 inches tall and was the world’s tallest person. She once toured with Barnum’s circus earning 500 dollars weekly before returning home to cope with rooms beds and clothing built to her extraordinary size.

New Franklin Missouri reports a massive blaze last night destroying property valued at 15 000 dollars. The fire originated in Virgil Davis meat market and engulfed W J Boggs general store the bank of New Franklin and Col Ben Nance residence. Bank stock loss 6000 dollars with 3000 dollars insurance. The bank relocates to temporary quarters and resumes business.
Granville Clayton a Lexington resident and Lafayette County pioneer died at his home Wednesday. Born May 10, 1810 in Barren County Kentucky he moved to Missouri in 1831 settling at Louisiana where he served as postmaster. He lived in Lexington since 1841 and was twice married first to Harriet C Barry of Kentucky and later to Eliza Wood of Kentucky both of whom predeceased him.
Two colored women named Moss and Smith, key witnesses for the grand jury, have fled the town. They were to testify against Smith's husband, jailed on charges of assault with intent to kill, but their absence will not affect the case because a written confession by Smith is already in hand.
The alumni association will hold its regular semiannual business meeting at the high school auditorium next Monday evening. No officer elections. Only routine matters to be discussed.
