London reports Mrs Maybrick, serving a life sentence for poisoning her husband in 1889, will be released next year. Her lawyers plan to use the timing to delay a suit over land holdings in Kentucky and Virginia. The case remains world famous amid past pardon efforts.
Springfield Missouri March 23 Six men died and one was badly hurt in a powder explosion at the Kincaid mine in Athens. Twelve men of the night shift were ready to leave when the blast occurred. Owners blame premature powder discharge while miners accuse reopening a gas-filled entry. Three of the dead leave large families.
In Jefferson City on March 23 a special grand jury convened to investigate alleged legislature corruption. It will also probe gambling and Sunday saloons and whether Sunday sessions violate the law.
Rome reports the Pope will not elevate Archbishop Ireland to cardinal unless President Roosevelt requests it. The American hierarchy remains divided on Bishop Ireland's elevation.
Jefferson City March 23 Hickox and Page refractory witnesses jailed by the House for contempt were discharged by the supreme court this morning. The court ruled they could refuse to testify on constitutional grounds for fear of self incrimination.

David R. Summers finishes the new city directory this week and departs for Kansas City Sunday. He asks readers to notify Sedalia Printing of any address changes this week. Summers will be in Kansas City next week and changes should go to Howe Directory Company.
Judge Longan on the circuit court bench today heard arguments for a new trial in Fredericka Voydt vs Sedalia Railway and Electric Co. The plaintiff recently received $21,000 in damages. Defendants’ counsel will appeal the ruling.
The Rev. F. O. Fannon delivered two sermons at the First Christian church Sunday and ten new members were received into the congregation.
George Cole travels from Beatrice Nebraska to attend his brother Will Cole's funeral. Mrs Cole remains in Beatrice and plans to return home next week.

Conductors and motor men walked off work in Tacoma halting all street car lines. The union seeks recognition and higher wages as the dispute escalates today.
In Chicago on March 23 about two thousand workers in three hundred shops staged a morning walkout demanding union recognition shorter hours and higher pay.
Superintendent W. J. McKee of the Missouri Pacific sustained serious injuries when a Frisco through freight collided with a Missouri Pacific passenger train near Lamar Missouri early Sunday. The private car he rode in was struck causing derailment and damage to the Frisco engine. Joining officials included S Ennis of Nevada Secretary Adams and a porter.
