Dr Ames five time mayor of Minneapolis was arraigned in Henepin county court on seven indictments alleging bribes from fallen women and other graft. Once a city idol he resigned amid rumors and later returned from New Hampshire to face charges.

Kansas City dispatch reports two planned lynchings in Lexington, Missouri were thwarted when officers secretly removed prisoners from the Lexington jail by row boat and delivered them to the Kansas City jail. The intended targets were James Ro vier Rosevier and Baptiste Minoret, the latter a killer of Vincent Gaffney, while the former wounded James Delap.
Py J. D. Hail Dry Goods Co. employee John McKnight and Albert Cornelius were killed when a Pennsylva nia switch engine struck a moving van on a fog shrouded grade crossing in Pittsburg. Two others were fatally injured.
