Jefferson City reports the final general appropriations bill passes both houses and goes to the governor. Militia funding restored, Capitol Park enlargement and Sedalia state fair funds removed, immigration board funds struck, school fund made permanent. Governor accountable for enforcement amid campaign pledges.
Secretary Rippey said the state fair could have had any recommendation from three conference committees, but it was clear before the vote that the extra 50,000 dollars would not pass both houses. A Sedalia meeting is set for Tuesday March 26 by the state fair executive committee.

A Topeka telegram notes Missouri Pacific plans a 250 mile line from Batesville through Yellville to Joplin named the White River railroad. The paper reports MP has bought 25,000 acres around Yellville and may make it a division point. Investors say 75,000 acres have been bought or leased by MP officials.
The Chicago Jefferson City and Springfield railroad company began a survey at this point this week and push southward. Missouri Pacific representatives arrived with a surveying corps today and started a survey to extend a branch from here to Eldon.
The Senate derailed the freight rate bill by voting against reporting from the railroad committee chaired by Hall. Senators Clarke Collins Costello Davisson Farris Jewell Matthews Morton Orchard Ramp Rollins Schoenlaub Smith Sullivan Thomas Whaley Zevely joined in the defeat. The move is said to save Missouri shippers about 1,000,000 dollars annually.
Chicago officials report the Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railway Company defeated the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers after eight engineers on the Chicago Burlington division were found to be Brotherhood members. Firemen aligned with the Brotherhood faced resign or quit options, with all but one choosing to stay with the railroad.
Jesse Powell of Empero Kas recounts in Ohio childhood stories of William McKinley. Powell recalls McKinley as a hard worker who cut weeds pitched hay plowed corn and chopped wood on a family farm across the Kentucky river from Vanceburg. The convention of the Order of Railway Conductors will be held in St Paul Minnesota from May 14 to 24. The event is expected to draw a large attendance with about 40 000 members from the United States Canada and Mexico anticipated to attend. Mr W E Miller will represent the Sedalia division at the gathering.
Four new Midland coaches for Hetty Green's Texas Midland railroad passed through on No. 3 Katy this morning. Exhibited at the St. Louis union depot, the cars are painted green inside and out with green plush seating. The line includes a baggage coach chair car parlor car and dining car.
A circular letter from H. C. Rouse as chairman and president of the Katy states that no officer or employee may become a director trustee or officer of any other corporation without first obtaining the consent of the chairman of the board of directors.
Versailles Missouri March 18 three prospective railroads are active here this week Ex Lieutenant Governor Bolte represents the St Louis and Colorado line securing right of way and filing papers for further extension contracts to Versailles will be let soon.
J B Quinlan resigns as station agent at Centerview and plans to move to Alva Oklahoma in a few days. He is described as a jolly fellow and a pleasant caller at the Warrensburg Star office. The item notes his upcoming relocation and cheerful personality.
A. B. Vedder, longtime Missouri Pacific shop inspector, died early Sunday from injuries after a buggy accident Saturday night. He lived at 1528 East Fifth Street and leaves a wife, two young sons, and two aging parents. Funeral services are set for March 19 at his home, with Granite lodge Masons and Knight Templars attending.
