A thief took seven pounds of butter a chicken and some dishes from a refrigerator on the back porch of Dyson Freeburn at 609 West Third Street Saturday night. The loss spoiled Mr Freeburns plans for a Sunday dinner.

Washington March 17. Lt General Nelson A Miles asked the war department to dispatch a plan for ending the Philippine conflict with minimal further casualties. Secretary Root denied the request and the White House concurred. The final indorsement dated March 5 1902 says Roosevelt and Root consider the war virtually ended and oppose Miles plan or policy change.
A Sunday morning tornado ripped through Piper camp in Bibb county causing extensive damage to 75 houses with 25 destroyed. Miner Ed Turner died when a tree collapsed into his house while John Allen and family were hurt. mines flooded and work halted with about 10,000 dollars in damage to the Little Capaba Coal company.
Macon Missouri March 17 W J Magee president of the Macon Abstract company and longtime Macon county public administrator has been missing since 8 am Saturday. He left home ill but went to his office and was last seen on the Rollins street viaduct about 9. He carried about 80 dollars. Magee 55, 5 10, 165 pounds, gray suit gray mackintosh soft black hat iron gray mustache and beard. Citizens met at city hall Sunday to organize search parties.
Augusta March 17 Joseph Homan Manley of this city has been offered the position of first assistant postmaster general by the president. Manley is in Washington considering the offer after Major Newtoff declined. Johnson the present incumbent has resigned and will stay until his successor qualifies.
