Recovery efforts for the Maine disaster will likely stop. Divers report further work impracticable as remains may disintegrate if touched. Bodies, believed to number about fifty, may be placed in hermetically sealed coffins and buried in Key West after being brought to view. Public health fears in Havana drive the decision.
February 24, inspectors Hennessey and Flory reported the south ranch of the Chicago and Alton Xi from Mexico to Edar City. They found bridges trestles and fences in good condition but rated the track overall as unsafe, consider it morally unsafe.
Acting Mayor Ilgenfritz presided as six aldermen met in special session to set March 22 for a special election on purchasing Association park. Voting sites include the courthouse and East Fifth Street buildings. election judges named for each ward. Cohen Coal Co advertises prices and storage at 592 West Main and 08 Ohio Street Sharp's.

Robert Callahan, 22, died at Katy hospital and was shipped to Denison, Texas for interment. A party of 105 Missouri travelers plus about 30 more en route departs Mexico for the Klondike. The train includes five tourist sleepers and a baggage car filled with dogs bought in Missouri. The group includes ministers, fraternal order members, and several office holders, many carrying substantial sums, with a diverse mix of origins and plans to seek gold.
Nebraska politician Patrick Ford receives word from the Navy that his son Patrick Ford Jr, missing for years since leaving Jesuit school in Omaha, is alive aboard the Maine after a marine confessed he was the youth. The message says he was blown up and carried far but unharmed. Father Ford seeks full enlistment details.
An old advertisement advises taking Laxative Bromo Quinine tablets to cure a cold in one day. It claims a refund if it fails and notes the genuine tablets bear L. B. Q. on each tablet and cost 25 cents at druggists.
A colored woman named Big Dick Sands was arraigned in Judge Burr's court on robbery charges. She confessed and received ten days in the county jail.

Charles Poindexter about sixty was caught stealing wood at two this morning in the south city. Judge Bosserman fined him three dollars and granted a stay. John Smith was fined five dollars for intoxication and also given a stay.
From 1 pm to 2 pm tomorrow Walter R. Dobbin will conduct a 25 cent tie sale at The Fashion showing ties in all styles shades and designs. Regular prices range 50c 75c and 1 but will be sold for a quarter apiece. The event promises a large afternoon crowd and is limited to one hour.
