The Cookman defense nears close as 14 year old Nathan testifies about the murder across the creek. He describes McBride taunting his father and the final gunfire as the jury weighs witness credibility and foliage visibility.
A grocery dispute in a leading business house over charity oranges escalated into a heated confrontation after a customer claimed short change. The grocer denied the claim, a quarrel erupted, and a bloodshed was averted as bystanders watched the intensifying clash. No further details available.
Mrs J W Cookman wife of the defendant testified for the defense revealing a 27 year marriage and identifying the family Bible. The document showed Nathan born November 16 1887 and she recalled McBride shouting about Cookman in the field the day before the murder.

At a Sedalia Federation of Labor session three new unions joined including Paper Hangers Decorators Painters and Boiler Maker Helpers. A severe late evening storm in Boonville Missouri leveled walls of Lee Robinsons brick building and destroyed Robert Conners foundry. Tobe Fisher died in the collapse. Banks mills and many homes suffered roof loss. Telephones and riverfront craft were damaged as three inches of rain fell in twenty minutes.
Justice D Kinsey of Sedalia township filed an answer through Messrs Steele and Bohling. He argues the Pettis county court lacks jurisdiction over him as a justice of the peace and that the Barnett law is unconstitutional. He cites awaiting Supreme Court ruling on mandamus and says the county court owes him $1300 in back fees while acknowledging the current census date.
Farris Pharmacy unveiled a new porcelain ice chest trimmed with nickel at Sedalia store yesterday. Manufactured by Wilk Manufacturing of Anderson Indiana the unit holds 150 pounds of ice with space for mineral waters and syrups. The display enhances the shop's appeal and signals its modern image.

The annual recital by Mrs. Ellen Barnes music school takes place this evening at Wood's Opera House. The city offers strong musical talent and a pupil will receive a medal.
Miss Laura Gearhart, sent to the Nevada insane asylum May 31 by Pettis county court, died of fever after a short illness. Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart, she lived three miles west of town. Remains brought to Sedalia. funeral set for Friday in the country.
Thomas Hacket, formerly of Sedalia, died recently in Kansas City. His father operated a merchant tailoring business many years ago.
