The Sedalia Public Library board held its regular meeting on Tuesday night at Lee Montgomery's office. Officers elected include Charles E. Yeater as president, Mrs. W. D. Steele as vice president, and Lee Montgomery as secretary. Faith E. Smith was reappointed librarian with Sarah McGowan and Margaret McDaniel as assistants. Otis W. Smith succeeds Al Hunicke and takes his seat.

On and after June 5 the Sedalia street railway company will charge five cents per ride with children under five free. Notices were posted today by Secretary Osborne. The change replaces the old mixed five and three cent system to simplify fare accounting.

How the Naval Orange Was Started in America
A single naval Bahia orange tree in the California agricultural grounds funded the department for thirty years. Originating from an 1870 tip from an American traveler, twelve budded trees were sent to the U S consul, planted, and the naval orange became the father of California citrus. Hattlesnake Incites Panic on Car Trip
A venomous reptile near the Hattlesnake area caused alarm as it strikingly frightened passengers aboard a vehicle, nearly triggering a full panic before wildlife officers corralled it without injuries.

On train No 1 a 5 foot rattlesnake loosed in a first class day coach caused panic among 50 passengers. Conductor Dye, using an axe from the emergency chest, killed the reptile after a brief struggle. Hammond Wins State Fair Grand Stand Contract
Watters H. M. Hammond was awarded the contract to finish the grand stand at the state fair grounds for 2520. He will roof, seat, and lay the concrete foundation. Directors plan to use the spring on the northwest corner, building walks to it to create a pleasant corner of the grounds.
Forshay in custody after Vernon house shooting
