Deputy Constables Tom Robb and Tom Gresham captured W. M. Brown and wife in Longwood and returned them to face trial. The mother Mrs. Shepard opposed custody. after a conference Judge Kinsey dropped charges and granted Brown and wife custody of the two children. Weather notes follow: May and June among Missouri’s driest in 30 years.
Good lead from Melton No 1 continues to yield ore sufficient for current expenses. Drifts open in several directions. windlass hoisting on the active shaft and belt hoist planned. Flume and engine adjustments hamper water supply to the Colorado mill. Union Mining reports promising ore on Henry Harms land. deeper drilling to define ore extent. Four mills expected in Raymond district within sixty days. Raymond ships zinc ore to Peru and builds a water flume to sustain mill operation.
A blaze at the Capital grocery store at Twentieth and Grand Ave. threatened adjacent buildings after a false alarm lured fire units. Water was scarce, buckets the only supply, and the loss is estimated at 1500 dollars with the store owner insured for 1000. Other fires and a prairie blaze occurred nearby.
Wil Neadstine of Mound City Ill lies at home after a stranger thrust a rubber snake in his face on Cairo street during a midsummer carnival. The shock triggered convulsions, recalling a prior rattlesnake bite that led to amputation, and doctors warn of possible death from the nervous-system shock.

Boonville Missouri July 5 officials, attaches and inmates of the state reform school observed the Fourth of July with songs and recitations by the boys. The day included several addresses by board members and field sports for about 2,000 spectators culminating in a baseball game the reform school defeating Sedalia first nine 8 to 3.
