Jefferson City notes: Patton of Texas county introduces a law banning nude posters in public places with a 25 dollar fine. Senate sees a bill to punish enticing children under 16, while Clay seeks 5000 dollars for a Benton monument. Other measures involve Nesbit law tweaks, state institution contract safeguards, and railway sleeping car rate cuts.
Subscribers to the International Grand Opera were allotted seats today with public sales opening at 9 am tomorrow. The company, touring Europe and the United States, will perform Verdi Il Trovatore acts one and four and Flotows Martha act two. Seats go on sale Thursday for subscribers and Friday for the public. strong demand suggests a rush and likely no seats remaining by curtain time.
In Jefferson City the house committee on accounts debates a bill to amend the opening line of Keats poetry by inserting the phrase If it does not cost too much, altering the famous line to read when the cost is not prohibitive. The measure sparked discussion among several committee members about literary alteration and budgeting.
The Missouri House debated a bill to reduce railway fares to 2 cents a mile on main lines and 3 cents on branch lines. The measure, amended by Huck of Ste. Genevieve, passed to engrossment with five Republicans voting for and Others against. Concerns about cost of a red carpet for the chamber were raised during the session.
Walter C McAlister William A Death and Andrew J Campbell were found guilty of second degree murder in the Jennie Bosschieter case and sentenced in Patterson New Jersey. McAlister Campbell and Death received thirty years each while George J Kerr drew fifteen years. The judge stated these are the full term of imprisonment allowed by law.
J M Monsees and Son announce their eighteenth annual sale at Limestone Valley stock farm on Tuesday March 5. Auction items include 25 jacks with three prize winners nine saddle stallions 10 thoroughbred short horn heifers 20 work mules and several Poland China hogs. Walter Motz and Miss Bessie Moore wed at 7 30 p m in the home of the bride’s mother 704 East Fourteenth.
Mr. Charles G. Chaddock of St. Louis and Col. F. A. Churchill are due tomorrow to inspect the new Queen City telephone plant. Industrial efforts and railway freight policy topics appear in Missouri news from Jefferson City, with rail commission hearings and Katy and Choctaw division activity noted.
In Hannibal Missouri on January 31 the trial of Mrs Alice Nesenhener for the murder of her husband Frank Nesenhener began with an opening by Prosecuting Attorney Roy. He alleged morphine poisoning in 1888 and 1889 and that she bought morphine the day the husband fell deathly ill on July 13. The body remained at home instead of a postmortem and insurance premiums were kept paid after his death. A separate report notes Roy Conley of Sedalia married Miss Kate Schook of Windsor, with the couple planning to reside in Sedalia.
Charles H. Heynen has placed a handsome monument in the Smithton cemetery over the graves of R. J Shy's father and mother.
Mrs Jessie Cordes wife of Sedalia merchant John Cordes died in El Paso Texas after eighteen months illness. She was twenty three. Her remains travel home Saturday with her husband joining her before Christmas. She leaves parents and siblings in Beaman Sedalia and Kansas City. Funeral plans not set.
Mrs Colvin of East Ninth had created a sensational scene over their three year old son on Wednesday. She appealed to the Prosecuting Attorney Cashman but he could do nothing for her. It is said she will join her husband on his Dallas county farm as he requested.
The Kelk Carriage Manufactory will ship a car load of swell rigs to Denver Colorado on Friday.
