A severe cyclone struck Fort Smith Arkansas during the night causing extensive damage. At least thirty bodies were recovered from wreckage by noon with rescuers continuing efforts. The disaster left many injured and thousands facing shortages as miners report food scarcity and disrupted operations nearby.
Billy Moore, just released from county jail this forenoon, was rearrested on the charge of bringing stolen property into Pettis county. In Justice Burr’s court he waived preliminary examination and was bound over to the criminal court in the sum of $500.
At the request of William Settles Charles McCormick and Will Abbot were arrested on the charge of criminal libel for allegedly reflecting on Alma Settles the plaintiff's sister. They will have a hearing in Judge Barr's court this afternoon.
Mrs S A James Receives letter from her husband a seasoned gold miner who left Clinton Missouri August 11 and writes from Dawson October 19 reporting 500 dead horses along the route between Skaguay and Lake Bennett He notes starting with 22 animals three were killed and seven disabled and that local friends aided their party to reach claims two and a half miles from the oncoming perilous trek.
The storm last night did not deter revival meetings at the Cumberland Presbyterian church. Rev. Tyler delivered a forceful sermon on Hell. Many attendees resolved to quit sin and seek salvation. Thomas Conner of Green Ridge and Iva Ashbrook of Sedalia secured a marriage license this morning and were married in the probate office with Judge Nichols presiding.

United States Marshal Bennett received a dispatch that a Seminole band of about 100 heavily armed men burned Maud post office and killed twenty-five residents. The attackers then moved toward Earnsboro while authorities from Oklahoma City dispatched a rescue train. Two Seminoles named McGeesey and Martin were captured, confessed, and were hanged after being chained to a tree. a white woman was killed on her farm and a child was left with a dead mother as the violence escalated in the Seminole nation.
