Sedalia officials audit bills and review city finances December reports show taxes, penalties, and receipts for sewer, library, and roads. A new public building fund pays weighmasters and janitors, while a street unnamed is renamed Ethridge avenue after alderman Ethridge.
Former Missouri governor Thomas T. Crittenden recalls the Drum case Charles Burden vs Leonidas Hornsby in Johnson County Missouri. The dog Drum became a statewide symbol as the suit moved from justice court to circuit and Supreme Court with Senator West appearing for Drum's owner.
Special to the Sentinel from Jefferson City January 8 reports House actions with 62 bills introduced including Blair's franchise measure and a death penalty option for murder by life imprisonment debates. Senate bills include death or life terms for stealing or kidnapping a child and separate coaches for Negroes. Governor Stephens sent 30 appointments which the Senate refused to act on.
The Loyal Rebeccas met last night and installed officers. Mrs. G. B. Hayden served as special deputy with Mrs. Helen Lister and Mrs. W. B. Taylor as assistants. Appointments included Mrs. Sue McVey right support to N. G. Mrs. Delia Gallie left support to N. G. Mrs. Mary Nicholson right support to V. G. Mrs. Ada Smith left support to V. G. Mrs. J. Moyer chaplain. Mrs. Ida Miller outside guard. Mrs. Lena Leonberger inside guard.
A stranger passed a bogus Mexican bill on Con McHugh this afternoon and fled toward the M K T tracks. He reported the incident to police and officers are actively searching for him, with a sighting reported leaving town on the railroad line.
