German representative Herr Sternberg formally demands Minister Bowen pay 340000 dollars in five equal monthly installments. First payment due two weeks after signing the protocol. Bowen to agree to peace terms, and the blockade will be raised upon signing.
A Burlington express on the Northern Pacific railroad was held up eight miles from Butte at midnight. Five or two robbers exchanged fire with train crew, blew the express safe, and escaped on horseback with about $5000. The railroad offers $5000 reward for capture.
The Uoe Turf and Invca company’s office closed due to an investigation. Demands for dividends were met, but deposits were not returned. Christy Co and International Investment Co paid dividends. I J Ryan’s firm says it is not affected.
A Senate committee report on W. D. Crum the president’s Negro appointee for Collector of Customs at Charleston S C shows an eight to seven vote with Gallinger and Perkins Republicans joining Democrats in opposition to placing a negro in a Southern office. The panel notes protests over racial integration and clashes with white residents in Charleston.
Reading railroad president George Baer told the strike commission that wages should hold as minimum for three years with a five percent rise for all employees after April and future increases tied to New York coal prices. He attacked the miners union Civic Federation and lawmakers and questioned union violence while defending capital’s power.
The president named William F. E. Stanley former Kansas governor as commissioner to negotiate with the Cherokee Choctaw Chickasaw Muskogee and Seminole tribes. Stanley recently retired as governor and is a Wichita attorney. The appointment rewards his withdrawal from the Senate race and support for Senator-elect Long.
Hon. CC Yeater and Tom Mitchum returned from Jefferson City with an invitation for the appropriation committee to visit Sedalia. Sixteen members may come Saturday. locals fund their entertainment and a committee will guide visitors to the fair grounds as streets are cleaned for a good impression.

Lincoln's birthday was marked as a general holiday in New York with exchanges banks and municipal departments closed. Numerous banquets were held by various organizations to honor the anniversary.
