David Richards attacked fellow worker Joseph Clem at a steel mill in Wheeling after a quarrel. Richards forced Clem’s head into a steam shear, causing instant death. Witnesses report Richards appeared insane before the fatal act.
Mrs. Willard visits the condemned murderer in the Tombs this morning and prays for his soul, insisting he bore no responsibility from birth. A Salt Lake dispatch notes Mary Young Hooper’s engagement to Tiarold Eldredge, kin of Senator-elect Smoot.
A massive blaze devastated Mor mon City today, described as the largest fire in its history. Firefighters battled the flames through the afternoon, with emergency crews evacuating nearby blocks and tracing the blaze to an industrial district. No fatalities were reported as of this edition, and investigators survey the scene for causes.

Hon. Charles E. Yeater heads to Jefferson City to invite the appropriation committee of the lower house to Sedalia. A piloting committee will guide them, with plans to entertain and raise funds to cover expenses. The visit aims to secure a liberal state appropriation for next year's fair.
J P Seiger of Burlington Kansas died at Thelma hotel after saying he was robbed of 240 dollars. Two bell boys in an adjoining room were arrested and a third was later charged. A doctor attributed death to heart paralysis. None of the money was recovered.
Oscar Dillon a railroad worker shot Lizzie Dunn a widow with three children at her home in St Joseph Missouri this morning. He fired three times then killed himself investigators say Dillon was in love with Dunn and believed she had accepted another man’s attentions.
The Giant White Star steamer Cedric sailed from Liverpool for New York on its maiden voyage. A large crowd witnessed the departure, and the vessel carried a very large number of passengers.
