Receivers in Chicago report ongoing claims against Elijah Dowie and expect full payment by January 1. They base this on asset scrutiny and a projected $75,000 in tithes from followers this month.
A local figure states that after appearing before the grand jury they have little to add or discuss publicly at this time.
The Ladies' Auxiliary to the Order of Railway Conductors Ella Stone division met at the K of P hall on East Fifth street Thursday afternoon and elected officers including President Mrs Charles R Campbell and Vice President Mrs William Phelan. An overlapping joint installation with the Order of Railway Conductors will be announced in a few days.
High school Juniors met Tuesday afternoon to plan the Christmas program. Turner Wilson was elected president and a committee was formed to arrange the festive events, with Grace Baker Nellie Hayman Georgia Sturges and others named for duties and a separate constitution committee selected.
Wm M Springer ex congressman from Illinois and ex judge of the northern district of the Indian Territory died in Washington from pneumonia He had been ill in Chicago before being brought home His wife and son Chaplain Springer of the army were with him He served in the Forty fourth through Fifty third Congresses and later on the Indian Territory supreme court bench for four years He was a Democrat longtime Ways and Means member and recently argued the Chicago drainage canal case before the Supreme Court.
Calvin Beaman of Sedalia Missouri reconnects with his wife and three children in Crawfordsville Indiana after a 36 year separation. He deserted in the late 1920s or early 1930s, wife remarried and died, and Beaman now writes his daughter of a prosperous life in Sedalia and plans to visit his Crawfordsville children. He says he has a wife and several children in Sedalia and intends to visit soon.
Mr Beaman of Sedalia reveals to Sentinel he located his daughter in Crawfordsville Ind and another daughter in Chicago Lottie Emmons at LeGrande hotel. He plans spring visits and notes his son Frank is custodian of the State Fair grounds. He and his wife Lydia reside with him along with a daughter and others in California and this city.
Conductor W. S. Stone, on the Katy, received word from Warsaw Illinois of the death of Mrs Stones father H Boyce at 1230 this morning. Boyce was 73 and a prominent Warsaw citizen. Stone will depart for Illinois tonight to attend the funeral.
Mrs Noble L Prentis widow of a well known newspaper man was appointed hostess of the Kansas building during the world’s fair in Topeka Kansas today.
George Woods, owner of three banks, including the Colfax bank, killed himself at his desk today due to poor health. The incident occurred in Colfax Louisiana.
Merritt Simmons a former private in the Fifteenth Infantry serving a twenty years sentence for looting in China escaped from the guard at Fort Leavenworth. Authorities are making every effort to capture him.
Spokane youth Harry Wilton, 14, was killed last night during a boxing drill when companion Mitchell demonstrated Fitzsimmons' solar plexus blow on Walton as the receiving end. Walton died shortly after the blow.
