A wreck on the M K and T at West Denison yards injured engineer Hotchkiss. freight cars broke from the lead and struck passenger No 3, full force on the side. The fireman escaped. train was made up into a new consist and no passengers were hurt.
Last night near Stringtown Oklahoma a cattle car on freight train No 103 caught fire. Thirteen cattle leaped free while twelve were burned to death as the scene turned tragic with animals in agony in the blazing car. Conductor serkpatrick led the crew in attempts to save survivors.
A train derailment or collision left one car burning while crew freed others and prevented a wider blaze. None of the remaining cars were injured, and the crew released them from the burning vehicle to stop the fire from spreading.
The Sedalia school board met at Superintendent Buchanan’s office to review routine items and plan the September 11 opening. They discussed using heat from the city steam plant for the High and Broadway school buildings, referring the matter to the building committee for a report next Monday night.
The Forepaugh Sells circus arrived by Missouri Pacific in Sedalia from Warrensburg to crowds and a grand parade. The show boasts 650 people 400 horses and 14 elephants with eager locals lining Missouri Avenue for the arrival and first performances this afternoon. The program promises a high order clean act with no fakirs on the grounds.
The Post Office Department will issue a new domestic money order after September 4. The form is smaller and blue with a carbonized manifold copy including the order and the advice to the paying postmaster. It carries a receipt for the remitter and a stamp passage area for bank collection.

He aims to attract western horsemen to ship horses to St. Louis for the fall Coliseum exhibition, which already promises strong entries and high interest.
Geo Baldwin sold 50 acres south of Smithton to Z T Nesbit and J N Nesbit for their residence at 111 East Thirteenth. The article then describes a grand circus traveling in three trains with elephants lions tigers and a female performer entourage, noting a living Liberty goddess and the Car of Juggernaut among the acts.
The St Louis Republic notes Frances Smith of Sedalia as the carnival queen for the September event week. Daughter of Harvey J Smith she is praised as prominent and attractive, educated at Sedalia and the Monticello Female Seminary, a blonde vocalist and Ladies Musical Club member.
Crowds of over 12,000 watched two pacers John R. Gentry and Joe Patchen in a $2,000 stake race at Gossen Driving Park. First heat finished dead heat, 2:03. Patchen won the second heat in 2:09 and led the mile in the third, while Gentry broke several times. Patchen drew the pole but the match disappointed many who expected faster work.
A citizen complains to the Sentinal that the Broadway school yard is filled with menacing rubbish this summer. Brick bats iron scraps and tin are strewn on the eastern side endangering children and must be cleared before the school year begins.
A pound social is set for Saturday night at the Salvation Army tent to aid Ensign Lackey whose wife and children have been ill since moving from St. Joseph.
