Russian minister Witte and Baron Rosen head to the navy yard for a preliminary meeting as the peace conference begins informal sessions to decide proceedings. The two nations enter the town with honored receptions while choosing a language for talks and planning daily sessions.
St. Petersburg Aug 9 M Witte the Russian peace envoy cabled Czar Nicholas that receptions at all points visited were more cordial than expected. He states the peace negotiations are in definite progress.
M L Byers of St Louis, MP maintenance engineer, said the railroad plans block signals between Kansas City and St Louis. Automatic signals exist to Washington, 54 miles west of St Louis. The company may adopt manual telegraph controlled signals due to decision delays. work likely to start late fall. Cost ranges from 600 to 1900 dollars per mile.
The funeral for Mrs. H B Hensinger, whose remains arrived Tuesday from Coheridan Wyoming, was held at 3:30 PM at the Decker home two miles east of the city. Rev A A Boyd of Central Presbyterian church conducted the services with many relatives and friends in attendance.

A portion of the new Gould system shops, costing about a million and a half dollars, began moving today. machinists from the old shops will transfer to the new plant to operate turning lathes and other machines as shafting and belting are completed. two motors were started today and the transfer of equipment will commence once the new belts are installed.

Jefferson City Missouri August 9 Roy Courtright a Kansas City youth who ran away and was found in the Jefferson City penitentiary was pardoned by Governor Folk yesterday He had been convicted of grand larceny at Springfield largely for his uncommunicativeness to spare his mother distress Courtright left the penitentiary late yesterday afternoon and reached home last night.
In Justice D Kinsey court eight boys aged 3 to 15 pleaded guilty to destroying melons on B. B. Fowler’s patch without permission. Each was fined $1 and costs totaling 8.50, with damages cited around $15. Defendants named Carl Johnson, Robert Johnson, Ed Housel, Jesse Maride, Eugene Ragan, Charles Donnahue, Earl White, and Walter Mack.
