President Taft signs a proclamation declaring a Cuban provisional government under aconstitution and announces elections for permanent officals. Troop mobilization for Cuba continues in Virginia and Norfolk with 5600 troops slated and the battleship Texas set to sail for Cuba.
Severe hurricane records mass flooding and fire across Pensacola Gulfport Mobile and Fort Morgan. Dozens killed or missing. property damage estimated in the millions. Telecommunication hydrolines and rail lines wrecked. naval yard vessels sunk and wrecked. Gulfport reportedly washed away with casualties and widespread destruction.
The Alaska Yukon Pacific Exposition fund aims to raise 600000 with Seattle districts canvassed October 2. Three railroads Great Northern Northern Pacific and Union Pacific each buy stock worth 26000 while merchants and citizens have already subscribed 25000.
