In St Paul Minnesota 48 year old miller Charles E F Madden reportedly took his own life by forcing material into his mouth and throat. He was found unconscious near his home and died before hospital arrival. Yarn and colored yarn fragments were removed from his esophagus.
The Ocean Steamship Co vessel Bellerphon reached Victoria this morning after 12 days and 12 hours from Yokohama. It left Yokohama September 18 and will sail to Tacoma to discharge before loading for the return trip to the Orient. This marks its first visit to Seattle under Dodwell & Co.

Mary Bailey aged 63, a Seattle pioneer and wife of M Bailey, died today at the family home 214 Lenora Street after a lengthy illness.
Pollard Steamship Co represented in Seattle by L H M Gray Co purchases the freighting steamer Melville Dollar from Robert Dollar Co of San Francisco. The ship will operate on the San Francisco Seattle Bellingham route carrying lumber south and merchandise north. It will undergo overhauling in Frisco and then run with the Rainier. Captain Louis Hansen will command the Melville Dollar and Captain Charles Lambquiet will command the Rainier.
John Koak sits in the city jail awaiting action on a serious charge alleged by his countrymen Russian Fiune. Seventy members of the society met last night and Koski was taken into custody after alleged conduct. Koski's daughter Lena provided the information leading to the arrest.
