In a St Louis residence a gas explosion fatally injures William Barnes while injuring Mrs. Albert Munn and her son Thomas. Barnes lit four matches filling a room with escaping gas before the blast.

Special to the Star Whatcom county’s first white settler Captain Henry Roeder died last night at 78 in Whatcom. Born in Kasar Germany on July 4 1824 he crossed to America at age six with his parents. He traveled from Vermillion to Portland and then walked to Bellingham Bay arriving January 1852. He claimed land with a sawmill and lumber yard later joined by Mr Brown. Roeder later went to Cariboo mines and returned to Mettingham Bay where he had resided since.

Frank P. Wilson, intended victim of John Henry, the African American who killed John Kinney at Main Street and Second Avenue South months ago, was arrested by Policeman Gilbert last night for stealing 4 palls of candy from Bigwater Bros. One dollar. Henry, the murderer who is now serving years, attempted to flee but the shot struck Kinney.
Detectives report a man named Edward Pitagerald and a woman called Clare Janet, both linked to an apparent badgering operation, were arrested after officers observed them in disreputable conduct on Third Avenue as theaters emptied. The man admitted involvement but claimed shame and was discharged by a judge, while officials indicated the pair were likely strangers.
On September 26 the coroner's experts conducted a microscopic test of Roosevelt's wound contents and concluded there are no dangerous races in the serum and nothing likely to cause blood poisoning.
Frank DeWitt was arrested in the Sunbeam saloon on First avenue last night on a charge of stealing a five dollar gold piece from R. Francis who was playing poker. DeWitt allegedly took the money and concealed it in his mouth and was arrested by Police Inspector Uniand.
Eleven-year-old sane Luseky was shot while loading a rifle behind a Booth Beattie grocery in South Seattle. The bullet struck his chest and likely lodged in the right lung. He is confined to his home and Dr. Richter attends him with uncertain prognosis.
