In Scranton Pennsylvania on September 23 Charlies Lundon aged 71 and Bert Lundon aged 71 were fatally wounded when attacked by strikers as they walked to the mines. Troops attempted arrests but have been unsuccessful and tensions remain high with soldiers keeping order to prevent further disturbance.
Washington reports Commander McLean of the U S Cincinnati compelled government troops to disarm before transfer across the isthmus. Marines guard all trains to keep traffic open while the army travels separately. The Colombian legation claims an agreement with Panama Railroad Co. covers troop transport. Navy officials say McLean acted within his instructions to prevent hostilities along the railway.

A warrant charging forgery was issued from Justice Cann's court today for H. S. Mulligan. C. Stark swore to the complaint and Mulligan was later arrested by Policemen Brown and Mayou. The charge alleges Mulligan forged B. Doherty's name on a $25 check and induced Stark to cash it.

Hooper Young, arrested as a suspect in the murder of Mrs. Annie Pulitzer, arrived at police headquarters under guard. A vast crowd gathered at the scene with detectives forcing a path to a side entrance. Young denied the killing, claiming an accomplice named Charlies Elling enticed Pulitzer and helped plan the crime. Authorities found a trunk in Chicago with female garments, but connections to Elling remained unclear. A photo was taken for the rogues’ gallery, and Young was arraigned and remanded to the Tombs with a hearing set for Be 30.

Philadelphia notes Joe Gans defending lightweight crown with a second round knockout of Jack Bennett. The bout, set for six rounds, ended early as Gans landed decisive blows in the second.
