Nobleman Indicted in London Court

A grand jury returned a true bill against Prince Francia Joseph, the patron nobleman, arrested during coronation week for an unmentionable offense. Work began on a three story brick building at Second Avenue and Ballard Avenue, to house stores, offices, and a theater. De Curtin and Witt are the owners.

At a Ballard city council meeting last night the council voted to award street work bids despite bids exceeding the engineer’s cost estimate. City Attorney Peck supported proceeding legally. residents hired C A Reynolds to press for authorization to pay higher taxes, with all but one member voting in favor.

City defers Second Avenue regrade due to petition

Public Works will not proceed with the Second Avenue regrade from the street to Denny Way without an amended petition signed by abutting property owners. The current petition lacks a majority of signatures though many residents favor the project. The council also considers a $28,000 street improvement in the Sixth Ward including Cedar Vine Wall Battery Hell Third Fourth avenues and related segments.

Varnish Explosion Destroys Tenement Building

A varnish explosion in New York on September 11 destroyed a four story tenement partly occupied by a varnish factory. Mrs Mary Frazer was killed and several tenants were seriously burned as a blaze followed from the blast caused by careless storage of dangerous chemicals.
