The Tacoma based Republican convention elected temporary chair Thurston County and discussed party loyalty and unity. Delegates backed Roosevelt and framed plans for candidates including Humphreys and Cushman amid debates over railway commission reforms and wage concerns.
Parliament in session today quotes Botha criticizing the conference notes and demanding increased relief for burghers. Chamberlain defends the relief fund rise but says the British aim is to forget and forgive. He notes military law will end soon and penal detention will be abandoned.
The Star reports a dispute over Moore Investment Co seeking to violate city fire building codes for Arcade, Lumber Exchange, and Curtis structures. At Marianna Hungary two pilgrims keeping the barn last night were robbed. The robber fired, inmates were shocked, and 37 others were affected, with one person killed and others wounded.
River workers from both the Willamette and Columbia regions strike for a 10 cent wage rise. Steamers are tied up as crews arrive and expect more action before the crews finish. Engineers allege corporations froze the two month old agreement.
The president landed in Washington at 4 99 in the morning and planned a quick half hour stop before leaving for Oyster Key. He will stay at his home in Homestead, South 1 until the start of the Chicago trip.

Victoria report states William Baker and B B Baker of Victoria and an unknown boat puller are lost after leaving the schooner Geneva off Copper Island to hunt. A dillt search by Geneva was unsuccessful. Weather was calm, suggesting possible arrival on the islands. News came via the schooner Trump reaching port last night.
Seven Chinese detainees sentenced by Commissioner Williams for unlawfully staying in the country were transported to Beattie from Whatcom yesterday by Deputy Marshal Ertringer. They depart on the Victoria tonight. Meanwhile Gui Smith who died in the Port Blakeley boat launch will be buried there this afternoon under the auspices of the A O U W.
The Pacific Coast Co. steamer Cottage City, Capt. David Wallace, ran aground on Keolin Island in the Bukkeen strait about 20 miles south of Fort Wrangel. The ship sits upright with 50 feet of keel gone, water filling the stern, and wreck salvage efforts underway. All passengers were saved, transferred to the Spokane, with 180 aboard. crew and officials remain aboard or ashore as tugs and lighters assist.
John Lind, reportedly in Nome, has not appeared for two days to claim his wife Mrs Lind who died of typhoid in August. He left Seattle after visits to the undertaker and a promise to return for the funeral on September 2. Authorities and nurses doubt his exit may hide foul play due to large checks found on him.
The All American rifle team departed for Ottawa to compete for the Palma trophy. They will have two days of practice in the dominion capital before facing Canada's and Great Britain's top shooters in the event.

Dinamore found a cedar boat marked 1763 in the wilda of Kongarok district Alaska. He located it in a gulch at Windy creek seven miles from Dahl creek. A letter from Ren G Goodman dated Aug 18 to the Nome Nut forwarded the report to Nome. The craft appeared very ancient and was built with wood.
A well preserved cedar boat fragment with a sail slot is attributed to Rus agayy in the early 1700s, suggesting use in maritime activity of that period.
The Swedish club of Seattle celebrated its 10th anniversary with the dedication of a new club building at Olive Street corner. The rooms include a parlor library billiard room and reception spaces with a large hall. President Henry Stumer recalled the organization’s history and refreshments followed by a dance.
The torpedo boat destroyer Goldsborough wrecked during a trial off Point No Point to Point Robinson. At 22.4 mph the port engine failed, jolting guests aboard as she halted and returned to the navy yard for salvage and assessment of future use.

Milk inspector Woodcock reports widespread complaints of souring milk, blaming farmers for skimping on feed. He investigated and finds the issue lies in milkmen feeding only cheap fodder, delaying proper hay and chop until winter.
Mr Woodcock reports sour milk indicates no adulteration and dairymen are urged to switch from sour malt to dry feed for better milk. A new one time milk ticket system is being adopted by all retailers under board of health orders and is receiving praise citywide.
Water will be shut off tomorrow morning from 9 to 11 o'clock on East Cherry street. The outage covers the area from Twenty second avenue to Lake Washington and extends east of Twentysecond avenue between East Cherry and East Streets.
