In San Francisco on September 4, 1,400 strike breakers are housed in city car barns with 300 more expected today. Early estimates place the total at around 16 percent of the workforce involved in the action, signaling expanding disruption across utilities and transit.

In San Francisco on September 4, probation officer W Hutton mistook Elmer Irwin, a youth under his care, for a burglar and shot him as he attempted to enter a house. Irwin died from the injuries.

A Labor Day picnic crowd riding a cable car returning from Wildwood Park yesterday afternoon lost its grip on a steep incline. The car descended toward the power house, passengers panicked, and several women jumped from the outside. One woman was seriously injured as she leaped to escape an inevitable crash. W Walters and Mrs Walters also leaped with their baby, narrowly escaping harm. The gripman finally halted the car near the bottom after several desperate attempts to regain control.
