Enthusiastic Reception for Dewey at Gibraltar

The Olympia with Admiral Dewey on board reached Gibraltar at noon and was greeted by Hantaian warships and forts. Dewey will stay until September 15 before sailing to New York as Spanish crowds from Cadiz and Malaga swarm the waterfront to glimpse the flagship.

Labor Day Celebrations Highlight City Parade and Races

Crowds filled Third avenue as a major labor day parade formed, bands played, and floats impressed. Madison park hosted events with winners in sprints, high jump, and yacht races. Wasp, Lavita, and Hornet led class results in the day’s seaside contests.

Labor Day Parade Forms on Third Avenue in Seattle

A large Labor Day parade forms on Third Avenue, travels along Union Street to Fifth Avenue and Pike Street, then to First Avenue and Washington Street, ending back on Union. Union unions and many crafts are represented, including the Western Central Labor Union, Tailors, Ship Carpenters, Iron Molders, Boilermakers, Machinists, Brewers, and more. The event features bands, floats, and a prize committee led by Jules Redelsheimer and Jay C Alien.

The Gambling Case Trial Set For Two O Clock

Tomorrow the trial of John Considine and George LAbbe on gambling house charges is scheduled for 2 PM in Judge Carson's court Duwamish precinct. Attorney F H Weisstling said he has not dropped the case and awaits the prosecuting attorney to return before pursuing search warrants for the Standard gambling house.

Sawmill and sash and door factory planned near Moran yards

A. and Kerry, burned out of a Seattle boat equipped sawmill near Moran shipyards, bought waterfront land between Clay and road streets for a future sawmill and sash and door factory, paying $12,000 for the site.

Seattle to Get Fine New Hotel in Colman Building

Moesera tells Saf reporter that Horace B. Dunbar and John P. Davis signed a 20 year lease on the Colman Building at First Avenue and Columbia. Three new stories costing 200000 will add a grand hotel with 670 guest accommodations and 26 sample rooms for traveling men. The hotel will feature a large dining room, private dining rooms, a cafe, and a telephone connected system. Work to begin next January or February and proceed rapidly. Separately Mamie Brown was arrested on a robbery charge involving John Conner on King Street, and funeral services for Robert milla were held at Bonney & Stewart's chapel.
