Ex policeman Tommy Bevan was arrested by Patrolman Donlan on Sunday night and charged as a disorderly person after a strenuous night in the city. Bevan, a former deputy sheriff, complained of the place as he paid 20 ball money, reflecting a stalled career.
Chilean police clash with an angry mob in Santiago on Sunday as a meeting to petition abolishing the Argentine cattle import tax escalates into a battle. Ten people were killed and about 100 wounded as troops were absent. Streetcars and electric lines were destroyed and the fire department aided in restoring order. Troops were expected to arrive today to quell the disturbance.
Mabel Tate, 16, a recent Seattle arrival, swam ashore after a small launch sank off Harper. She wandered three days in wet clothes, recalling a party of eight aboard led by Frank Tate to Tacoma. Four thousand dollars in gold and cash was aboard. suspicion falls on drunken companions.
In Jefferson City Missouri on October 23 an executive man urged fire control at a reception hall beneath Governor Folk's quarters. The governor assisted Mrs Folk to safety then took charge in old rubber coat directing firemen. Flames were extinguished with about $1000 loss traced to a defective electric wire.
Beattie club women gathered at the Stanford to pledge support for a Christian Endeavor convention in Seattle. They resolved to back a $25,000 guarantee fund, joining ministers and business leaders to bring 25,000 delegates to the city, viewing Seattle as capable and timely.
Mrs. Jeanna Leachman, owner of Real Rock lodging house in Seattle, files for $10,000 damages against former Everett Councilman Randy Thompson for breach of promise to marry. Thompson denies intent and calls the suit blackmail, saying he will fight it in court.
Manuel Teshara a 20 year old Mexican baker aboard the Humboldt was killed beneath a switch engine on Main Street at 2 AM. The crew found his body on the track and think he may have attempted to pass or crawl over cars. Coroner Arnold investigated. body taken to Bonney-Watson morgue and held for wife in Santa Cruz California.
A major blaze in Bellingham county Saturday night consumed the shingle mill near Custer owned by Ed Brown and Hart Bros, burning about 2,000,000 shingles. The loss stands at $20,000 with no insurance, and the fire’s origin remains a mystery. A dance occurred that night and the watchman was away from his post.
Joseph Shippen spoke on The Yellow Opportunity Versus the Yellow Peril before the assembly at the state university Monday. He argued for giving Chinese the same emigration privileges as other countries to keep trade open. Chinese residents attended the address. Also noted: city water shut off Tuesday 5 am to 5 pm between Jackson and Dearborn, plus Twenty sixth and Thirtieth avenues south.

The police probe the sloop Deoroda case after its capture reveals lavishly fitted interiors with silverware rugs and bric a brac allegedly stolen from millionaire homes along the sound. It carried items of Midshipman Jackson and Olga Maxwell who were linked to the Missouri battleship incident. Jackson resurfaced in Canada in a dazed state and may not recall departing the ship or meeting the woman.
Adama who underwent an operation at Providence hospital on October 20 is steadily improving.
In Tuskegee Alabama Roosevelt spends most of the day at the Tuskegee Institute after being urged by Booker T. Washington to tailor his itinerary. He tours every department, reviews student displays, and delivers a midday address to faculty and students. He arrives in Montgomery and promises to see Alabama again on his return.
Flames from an exploded lamp in George C. Clark's room at 1303 Third nearly suffocated him and destroyed the apartment contents. Firemen arrived in time, and Clark, said to be cured, avoided severe injury and possible death at the Wayside hospital.
Councilman H. P. Rude, known as a tailor by trade, is discussed as a possible mayoral candidate. City hall insiders doubt his viability, citing a past strike against Gill, a broken pledge, and fading influence with council factions and department heads.
