A Main street hill runaway Seattle street car raced to a curve near Occidental avenue and Main, sending six passengers leaping to platforms while five men and a youth fell. The motorman and conductor kept control with brakes. all injured passengers returned home unaided.
Early August morning two highway robberies occurred. Ida, living near Clay street and Firet avenue, was assaulted by three men at noon and robbed. Ernest Muller and John Hammer were arrested and identified by the victim. At 4 3 o'clock John Carlson, a sailor, was beaten and robbed on the waterfront between University and Union streets, losing 45 dollars and left unconscious. Police have no clues yet.
Frost was fatally wounded while Mr. Carter, owner of the camp, fired at 4 shunk. A steel jacketed bullet struck Frost's right side. He died at Providence hospital after being moved from Bremerton to Seattle where surgery proved impossible due to the wound and fatigue.
Several people were burned and otherwise slightly injured after jumping from a Madison streetcar on Second Avenue Saturday evening amid a feared collision.
A westbound car on Third Avenue nearly collided with a vehicle ahead on Second Avenue. Passengers feared a collision and jumped. Mrs Captain McCrary was badly bruised and taken to Providence Hospital. Wooden suffered a left fracture and J M Anderson sprained a wrist.
Juneau reports indicate Special Corrections officer Diedrich, a soda water solicitor, was arrested for embezzling 6500 from Taku Tribe No 1 of the Improved Order of Red Men. The lodge officers Ball and Diedrich were treasurer and secretary during the period of the alleged theft.
Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Taylor awarded the Seattle federal building contract to Magrath and Duhamel, Seattle contractors. Government reserves right to substitute granite later if needed and to adjust the contract amount accordingly.
Ballard Oct 1 Reverend G King painter of the Delard Haptiet church has resigned in a farewell sermon he denounced the flock calling them antagonistic to his pastorate likening them to Judas Iscariot. He portrayed himself as the humble Nazarene betrayed by followers and did not attend that evening service.
The jury could not agree on Eugene Bouecke the Inerrance man charged with robbery and was discharged by Superior Judge Hell after hours of deliberation. Neweke's trial lasted a week for the alleged hold up and theft from the Mitek family at Green Lake with Mrs Blick positively identifying him and jewelry recovered. The case will be retried as soon as possible pending further evidence.
The Twenty first anniversary of Seattle Typographic Union No 202 will be celebrated Tuesday night at Christenson hall. A musical and literary program has been arranged.
Annie Brown, a Nome dance hall woman, alleges blackmail by Chief Wallingford, Councilman Bail and Patrolman Backett. The officers were arrested and released on $500 bail each. A prosecuting witness says he was forced to give up 100 dollars for police protection. Chief Wallingford is a former Beattle man.
Kimer Patrie of Bpekane was shot and killed on a Northern Pacific freight train west of Hangman Creek. G. K. Fulkerson, forced to leap from the moving car, walked to Spokane and told police what happened. Two assailants, unmasked, robbed Fulkerson and fled after the killing as the body of Patrie was found in the lumber car.
A Washington dispatch reports the War Department has waived objections to using government road to Fort Lawton for an electric railway. Seattle Electric Company will begin construction early in spring, after previously seeking access via Inerbay and the Fort road. The government favored a roundabout woodside path, deemed costly due to steep grades. The shift followed General Corbin’s recommendation, influenced by Beattie’s leadership.
A Star caution describes a two step milk test using colored reagents to detect formaldehyde adulteration. Two teaspoons of taste and clean lines are mixed with drops labeled A to produce a pink hue, then drops labeled I to reveal a blue or purple color if formaldehyde is present. If color change occurs, report to city health office with a sample from the same source for official testing.

Filjah Slocum, age unknown, died at his son Grant Hlocum's home from drinking carbolic acid in whisky. Despondent over aging, he retired to a room where the son later found him dead. The body was sent to Butterworth & Bons morgue and the coroner notified.

Charlies Hoehn a 17 year old boy believed to be one of the robbers who held up an O R & N train near Portland was arrested near Whatcom last Wednesday. Under Pinkerton direction he was brought through Seattle yesterday by Captain Nevins and Multnomah County sheriff. He was found in a mill where he had worked since the hold up and had been under surveillance while hoping for the appearance of Jesse James. Hoehn's arrest followed a confession from Guy Marshman wounded in the Troutdale hold up now in a Portland hospital.
The Globe Navigation Company's freighter Meteor, Captain Ames, lost her propeller about October 1 while 150 miles from Nome on a Seattle to Nome voyage. She carries 3,300 tons of N A T & T Co freight. Two men reached Nome with news. A tow vessel from Eureka or Roanoke may be sent. Meteor faces no danger unless a storm hits before help arrives.
The body of Samuel M. Smith, a Dawson mining man, was recovered on the beach above low tide at Lane Street. He appeared to have fallen into the bay while intoxicated the night before. A certificate for 776 dollars from the Canadian Bank of Commerce was found in his pocket. No relatives have been located.
Washington October 12 the Supreme Court resumed its regular fall term. No business was transacted on opening day. Justices met the president and heard bar admission applicants. Key cases include Northern Securities Company appeal and questions on Porto Rico acts and Philippine acts impeding tariff duties and citizenship for Porto Rican natives.
