Wells Not Brutally Treated, Says Jury

A federal grand jury found Huulet M. Wells of Seattle, serving two years at McNeil Island, received no brutal treatment from Warden C P Halligan. The report notes Wells had bread and water for refusal to work, and that any punishment arose from refusing to cut cordwood after warnings. The jury says Wells was not hung up when handcuffed and viewed himself as a political prisoner. It concludes complaints against the warden are unfounded and prison conditions are excellent.
