Two men were devised to arrest the judge for contempt of court. Citizens swore vengeance as the judge fled by train but the locomotive refused to move. He was later pulled from the car and promised to behave.
An ordinance to condemn the Yesler triangle in front of city hall was introduced. The parcel, set aside for a library, is deemed too small for a building and the chamber of commerce favors a library linked to a structure, possibly a new city hall with an archway over Third. Councilman Mullen also introduced a measure to have the street department repair sidewalks at the expense of abutting property owners if they refuse after notice. The council approved widening Fourth Avenue and extend nine feet on each side.
In Chicago on October 2 Judge Bethea chosen not to use a federal court. W C Day named receiver for general manager of Western Life Indemnity Company to oversee personal acts. Counsel requested a master Indian be appointed to question Rosefield about company operations. motion granted.
North Yakima Oct 3 Opening day of the Yakima fair drew large crowds as all buildings filled. Exhibits crowded art halls and livestock pavilions with no stalls left. Races featured a 2:30 trot won by Vinie Mann with Lady Peart second and Home Heaven Maid third. Also racing events and speed times noted. Ballard Business Men's association reorganized with officers named A W Mackie President and J E Ostrom treasurer plus other trustees.
