A houseboat carrying A N Williams his wife and sister in law was swept across Lake Union at 18 mph by a 64 mph gale. The roof ripped off, two women were seasick but unharmed. The storm damaged the port wharf, Stimpson Mill, and many windows as telegraph lines failed and shipping dragged anchors.
Special Correspondent W. H. Nevison reports from Petrograd that mass movements are underway as Germany receives vast influxes while Russia begins to mobilize newly. He notes the Baltic and Black seas blockade and enemy lines isolating Russia, with early reports from the Massion front.

Berlin reports a flight by German aviators over Sheerness and Harwich in England. Official announcement states the aerial maneuver occurred today with authorities confirming the operation.
New York mayor Mitchel called on the board of education to abolish the dismissal rule for married teachers who become mothers. He suggested a leave of absence policy for expectant teachers. He noted that women now perform 75 percent of rifle ammunition manufacturing for the army and navy.

In Olympia Senator Carlyon blames Democrats for high taxes last session while Governor Lister challenges him to prove Republican voting against any tax cuts. Lister says Republicans controlled the legislature two years ago and must be held responsible as they push for strict economy, especially in King County.
