Six year sentence imposed on Harold Haynie the highwayman by Judge Miller at opening of court. The defense waived a new trial and the term was announced as the court opened. Mrs Grace Haynie described the couple as distressed and expecting longer punishment. Haynie accepted the verdict and voiced satisfaction.
Fire alarms sounded after flames were seen rising from rubbish in the basement of the Svea Hotel at 1520 Fifth Avenue. The blaze, starting in the Imperial restaurant area, was controlled by the fire department with the hotel saved from complete destruction. The three story brick building suffered damage mainly to the restaurant from smoke and water.
The 18th annual ball of Friendship Lodge No. 1 Seattle Street Railway Employes will be held in Rankin Hall on November 12. George Gay and Sam Kaufman are the committee on arrangements.
Clarence Leonard a messenger and Katherine Miller of Boat Orange New Jersey vanished two weeks ago with 10076 in forged checks. Police watched depots and ferries but failed to intercept them. Leonard a East Orange social figure and Miller, engaged to a society man, were reportedly captured in Vancouver while carrying over 90000.
Two new dynamite discoveries raise fears of a sabotage plot. A boy found two cases near an old brewery on Weetlake Avenue while another cache was buried at Firat Avenue South and Holgate Street. Police pursue a mysterious packer seen near the New York Block as the earlier Fort Lawton dynamite disappearance resurfaces.
Everett reports Chairman Fleming received Arlington telegram about a near finished wagon bridge carried away by log jams at 6 am. The Snohomish River rose to about 15 feet after the storm, flooding the area and sending roughly a million feet of logs downstream. A log jam formed on the falsework supporting the 20 foot span and the piling gave way, taking the superstructure with it.
An autopsy on E. G. C. Thompson found death from a fractured skull after he fell on Pike street Wednesday night. He died in a patrol wagon en route to Wayside Mission hospital. Percy Thompson of Colton, California, wired he would travel to Beattle.
A six pound specimen from Wincrest's claim, 16 miles from Poplar Creek, features a tangled mass of wire gold and wire silver. The vein itself is not wire, but the ore's richness compensates. Described as the most beautiful wire gold seen in the province, it includes wire silver as well.

Daniel Bowman aged workman at Stanley's grading camp on Lake Washington was robbed by two assailants on Western Avenue at University Street around 6 PM. One man restrained Bowman while the other rifled his pockets. Bowman alerted the first patrolman and then reported to police headquarters giving a description to Captain Willard.
Suspects An. Neilson alias Frank Wilson and Joe Muntington were arrested by Acting Detective Eas after being found on Eighth Avenue attempting to sell a ring, suspected of involvement in recent burglaries.
Nome fleet ships including Corwin Battle Discovery Eureka Meteor and revenue cutter Manning and Bear remain at sea fighting ice. Discovery sighted off Yakutat ten days ago. Corwin left soon after Oregon. Sadie expected to reach port with no passengers or cargo. Eureka aims to arrive about the 1th. Meteor unlikely to sail before December 1st. Bear possibly heading via Sitka. Manning to San Francisco.
Pillchuck Jack, chief of the Pillchuck tribe once large but now dwindling, died at his Snohomish home after a long illness. He was demented in recent weeks and unrecognized many friends, with visits from tribal members across Puget Sound. His exact age is unknown, reportedly around seventy.
Ten valuable dogs have been poisoned in as many days and found dead or dying under the influence of strychnine. Humane Officer Clarke responded to cases where only prized animals were harmed, with no apparent motive. Police cannot locate the source, and the Seattle Kennel Club, already tracking similar cases, offers a standing reward for the arrest and conviction of dog poisoners. Last night Officer Clarke was forced to shoot a magnificent mastiff worth at least 160 dollars after terrible symptoms appeared.
Beattie investors and miners report the De Soto Mining Company owes about $98,000 with many workers unpaid or underpaid for the season. Captain Ferguson and Maj. Habecker defend operations while Dr. De Soto stays at Council to direct spring work and fund hospital efforts.
