Finch repelled an assault near Pike and Union streets when a robber approached with a pocketknife and a second man brandished a revolver. Finch struck the robber with a right cross, fending off three attackers who fled toward Fourth Avenue. Police will review the incident.
A meeting was called for tonight to organize a Puget Sound ashermen union. The speaker cited the San Francisco union, organized recently in the fall, with about 1500 members, as a model and argued for federation with the International Fishermen's Union.
