He reportedly said he drank moonshine whisky and met Rosalie at a Sunday school before driving her away. The girl said he tried to drown her but she fought back. Armed deputies stood ready as the case drew local intensity.
Four people fell ill after eating cake purchased at a West 124th Street bakery. Police probed the case as pieces of the cake were sent to the city chemist for analysis. Victims experienced violent pains immediately after consuming the food.
A fire at the New York Institute of Photography forced evacuation of about 25 girls and nearly 100 disabled veterans from the fifth floor as three alarms rang out. Firefighters faced smoke and overcame several, during a prolonged rescue through the building.
