A Vatican blaze broke out around 8:90 last night, burning for about an hour in the section housing descriptions used for papal audiences. Firefighting by Rome’s firefighters and direct supervision by the pope contained the fire, marking a rare government presence inside Vatican premises and sparking widespread Rome alarm.
Eamund Vance Cooke, a humorist and poet, travels to Seattle embracing a strict vegetarian diet. C C Young a well known Juneau engineer died en route to hospital after being taken aboard the Dolphin at Petersburg for medical care. His widow Mrs Young brought the body to Juneau and it lies at Young's undertaking parlors. He was employed by Pacific Packing and Navigation Company at Petersburg.
Articles of incorporation for the Union Savings and Trust company were filed in the county auditor's office Saturday afternoon. The firm will be larger than any current city bank and opens November 1 in the former London and San Francisco bank building. James D. Moe Jr. will serve as executive head.
A blaze in New York yesterday destroyed the Bowery whale on Coney Island and claimed two lives, including Lisaie Stein, 6, and an unidentified Black man. Albert Rew ben died in Kings County Hospital, with five women severely injured. The fire, suspected incendiary, caused extensive damage.

The three weeks old son of Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Baerett of 43 Finney Avenue north of Fremont died after bed clothes covered his head. Mrs Baerett heard him cry, prepared food, and slept through the accident. The coroner ruled accidental death after examination by Deputy Coroner Wiltele.

The Nome fleet of eleven vessels led by the Oregon Eureka Meteor Etahu Thor son Karluk Sadie Discovery Cor win Manning and Bear is racing toward port. Oregon, sighted late on the 20th by Seater and Ohio, is expected to be first to arrive with 460 tons of cargo to discharge in hours. If Nome schedule holds, she could reach port by tomorrow. Most ships will return home, except Manning and Karluk which head to San Francisco directly.
A tragic drowning is reported near Dawson with scant details. A young man named Cavaneugh from Seattle reportedly died while traveling from St Michael toward Tanana by launch, the exact location undetermined and details unclear.
A small gasoline launch capsized while traveling up the river toward Fairbanks. Cavenaugh drowned, another man reached Fort Gibbon and wired his Seattle family. A survivor reached Dawson last week. the accident occurred about two to three weeks ago.

A report claims nineteen cases of dynamite were stolen from Fort Lawton and may be in Seattle. Investigators link the theft to a creek bed near the fort and the suspect WI Shannon, an ex soldier, amid police efforts to recover the explosive before it detonates.
C W W Gant, a hackman for Seattle Transfer, was robbed at Fourteenth and Jefferson by two masked men. They took $1.50, a gold watch, jewelry and gloves in a minute or two before fleeing. no description could be given. Another incident occurred at Twenty-fourth and Fast Jefferson as Gant delivered a barber home, with the pair seen in an alley by the barber. The men ambushed Gant again, grabbed his watch and money, and discarded the gloves before fleeing. Police were notified, but the robbers wore masks and left few clues. only two hackman robberies have occurred in Seattle in six years.
Seattle and Tacoma played to a 0 to 0 tie as Tacoma dominated team play and twice suffered 20 yard penalties for holding. Seattle captain Dowd was ejected for fouling Tanner of the visitors. The teams meet again in Tacoma on November 14.
Special to The Star reports Perry Queenan and Rafe Turner signing for a match in Vancouver under the Vancouver Baseball Club. The bout is set for Theater Royal with catch weights and a planned date of November 14.
