Seventeen men and two women were jailed on charges of syndicalism after a raid on a hall in Aberdeen Washington. They are alleged I W W members accused of planning further organization in the state.
A severe hail storm near Greeley Colorado yesterday damaged crops estimated over 100000 dollars. The storm spanned about 15 miles by 45 miles with golf ball sized hail reported.
The lengthy Illinois governor Len Small case includes five tons of documentary evidence, with both sides hopeful to close the trial in early June. Prosecution accuses Small, Sterling and Curtis of diverting $2,000,000 in public funds through the Grant Park bank, while defense claims the deposits and bank were legitimate and shielded by an old unconstitutional law. Sterling faces trial in Sangamon county. both sides push for victory as the case nears its end.
More than 100 veterans and other students packed Philosophy hall at the University of Washington to condemn the Veterans Bureau for issuing trainees before full qualification, improper course sequencing, unavailable federal supervisors, missing course outlines, and failure to place graduates in gainful work. An informal group led by Earth Reed, a vocational student, vows to press for individual case consideration. the Seattle chapter of Disabled American Veterans initiated the action, with Fred W. Woodbridge heading the investigating committee.
On the lumber steamer Russell Haverside engineer Brown was killed after Mrs. Harde, enraged by jealousy, stabbed him with a bread knife in the captain's cabin. She and her husband were aboard the ship near the Haverside when Deputy Sheriff Murray arrested her. she admitted jealousy of Edward and offered no further explanation.
Lou Hein 21 and his wife were pulled from a house at 1630 First Ave by neighbors as a blast from a still started a blaze on the upper floor. Firefighters from Hose Co. 24 and Engine Co. 6 battled flames. Hein was jailed while his wife was released. Fire loss reported nominal.
Three pouches of mail containing 48000 in Liberty bonds 8000 in cash and about thousand letters were stolen from the Santa Fe station in Trinidad on May 21. Post office inspectors and detectives have been working on the case with no announcement made until today. the pouches held mail from California and Arizona.
