A man arrested in Poughkeepsie for a taxi robbery claimed he killed William Desmond Taylor and named Frank Doran and "Mac" as accomplices. Los Angeles police were expected to advise on action, but authorities suspect the murder tale was a ruse to gain a trip west and stall the robbery case.
Olympia May 26 The state department of public works ordered Puget Sound Telephone Co to raise monthly minimum telechrones for Everett subscribers after finding original minimums too low. One party lines 800 telechrones, two party 400, four party 250, six and eight party lines eliminated. A 1 cent per telechrone charge applies above the minimum.
Justice Young dismisses habeas corpus and orders Walter S. Ward jailed without bail for the killing of Clarence Peters. In Los Angeles, funeral arrangements are set for Gilson Willets, author, traveler and war correspondent, who died suddenly in a hotel.
Four headed to Auburn when a car skidded into a ditch and overturned at 4 30 am. Arthur C Hubbard 58 Auburn died trapped beneath the car while David Rae Kent suffered severe injuries and may have a broken back. Jerome Uder Kent escaped unharmed as the other two survivors suffered shock and nerves. The wreck was the property of Frank Patterson Auburn.
A blast at the Cameron Powder Works in Sinema honing near Emporia Pennsylvania kills nineteen workers and injures many others. Three houses exploded with three men in each. cause unknown. First aid trains rush to the scene from nearby towns.
A coroner's jury questions Police Sergeant E W Pielow about his whereabouts between 12 30 and 2 a m on March 17 the window of Charles Q Legate's death. Witnesses Hall and Gunn report three sounds in the garage including a revolver shot and Legate's pistol shows four finger marks.
