Berlin reports indicate Germany will alter final counter proposals after news that the allies granted more time for treaty talks. Chancellor Scheidemann and Count von Hernstorff may travel to Spa to confer with Count Brockdorff-Rantzau. Unconfirmed word says Brockdorff-Rantzau opposes German changes while Berlin workers and soldiers council pushes for treaty signing.
Senator Lodge of Massachusetts has been appointed chairman of the foreign relations committee by the committee on committees. Senators Penrose and Warren are favored for the finance and appropriation chairmanships. The piece ends with a proverb about wealth.

The body of a woman found Thursday evening on a beach near Edmonds was identified Friday by Coroner N B Challacombe of Everett as Mrs Billingsley. She leaped into the sound from the City of Angeles about 10 am while being taken from Sedro Wooley insane hospital to Friday Harbor by her husband. She leaves two children aged four and six. Puget Sound Navigation Co officials say she had threatened to commit suicide.
Rome reports Stromboli volcano erupts violently with several dead and many injured. Rescue parties are en route from Messina to the island to aid victims.
