The Olympia arrived in Hong Kong and Admiral Dewey drew a massive ovation. Warships fired salutes while British sailors cheered the hero of Manila. Gov Bake invited him to stay, but he declined as officers gathered to congratulate him.
A fire at the Western Shingle mill on Lake Union Seattle destroyed the mill last night. A witness saw a tall man in a black suit approach the mill with a can of oil, then flee by boat as flames spread and the drying kiln suffered minor damage. Police suspect arson, noting recent nearby fires including the Western sawmill and the Kindike sectional hot house.
May 22 Great excitement in Sandable near Diaz as seven colored laborers are lynched by a Mexican mob after an alleged assault on a rancher’s wife. The mob seized and hanged four, shot two fleeing men, and spread a race war scare as officials swear in deputies to keep the peace. Four victims were Americans with Texas penitentiary records.
Reports from Bombay describe cholera raging in the lower Indies valley near Karachi with death rates over one daily. Latigi Mimeti 42 attacked the 18 year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Ponderelle Cabam at his home in Bridgeport yesterday afternoon. Clement Cabassa a 19 year old brother of the girl shot Mimeti last night and he was later arrested.

At Falmouth England on May the crew and salvage men work to discharge cargo from the stranded American liner Paris. The ship remains hard and fast on the Lowland Point ledge but the sea is calm and rescuers now see fair hopes of saving the steamer.

Chicago TL May 23 William Reahan surrendered to police admitting he struck the blow that killed Henry Nelts father of the professional baseball player named Nelts. he says it was self defense.
The widow of H B J Moardman and his daughter Mrs L L B Conover are in a legal fight over the will. The daughter would receive the estate under the will, while the widow objects to bequest and claims dower. The suit contends the husband was of unsound mind when the document was signed and alleges hidden property.
Garfield owners May M Holbrook and Bishop sold 200 head of cattle to Kiddie Bros of Isand City Oregon. The herd ranged near Winona and was driven to Omaha with a large shipment from Colfax on Saturday night.
In Lebanon Pa a young railroad worker William G Christian escaped serious harm after being assaulted by three tramps who demanded money. One attacker Thomas Lubber of Philadelphia drew a knife and wounded only his coat and belt buckle while Christian blocked the blow with his buckle.
In STARBUCK WASHINGTON May 2 a freight train No 21 rounded a curve and struck a section crew on the track. Two Chinese laborers were badly mashed, suffering broken legs, and were rushed to Walla Walla hospital.

In Judge Morgan's court Dr. 8 A Mayen sues J B Cranfil and others for 100000 damages over an alleged attempt to quiet him and his newspaper the Texas Baptist and Herald from the Baptist organization. The trial involves five lawyers per side and ten days of testimony from prominent Baptists across Texas.
Washington May 23 report from General Otis states urgent recommendation by General Lawton to brevets for Brigadier General of Volunteers Owen Summers for conspicuous infantry service at Haasin Bulacan and San Yeldra and Captain Case to Major of Volunteers for gallantry while serving as division engineer of corps at those locations.
