Seattle Star reports on pure food law enforcement and consumer protection

The piece argues that stringent enforcement of the pure food law is needed in Seattle and statewide to stop adulterated products from unscrupulous dealers. It notes testimony before the Senate Pure Food committee showing wide adulteration, while warning that only wholesale reform and controls will prevent unsafe goods, including oleomargarine passed as butter and buckwheat flour mixed with wheat, from reaching consumers. It contrasts consumer risk with limited recourse, urging national and state laws to end harmful practices and protect public health.
