Champoux Hanged for Seattle Murder at State Prison

Zenon Champoux also known as James Champoux was executed at the state penitentiary in Walla Walla after being found guilty of killing Lottie Brace in Seattle two years earlier. The death occurred at 5 1 o clock this morning with Father M Flor present.

The Crime of Champoux A Rare Alaska to Seattle Tragedy

Lottie Brace, a young concert hall performer, was murdered by her rejected lover Champoux in Seattle in November 1902 after prior courtship in Alaska. He stalked her, pledged marriage, wrote threats, and used a hunting knife to kill her during a dance hall outing. Captured soon after, he showed no remorse, preferred raw foods in jail, and spoke of meeting Lottie in the next world.

Two small towns in Parker and Shackelford counties were reported destroyed by a cyclone last night. Wires are down and figures are unconfirmed. Sailors say gooneys house dead sea captains souls and roam the seas never near land. The superstition says punishment of the wicked is to become a gooney and wander the Pacific.
